Vista's Program
Vista High School is devoted entirely to providing an optional instructional setting by which all enrolled pupils may reach curriculum objectives and fulfill graduation requirements through an independent study format. The students in grades 7-12 meet with a supervising teacher once a week for 60 to 90 minutes. Students receive assignments for the week. When the student returns the following week, the teacher discusses the assignments with the student, evaluates the student's progress, instructs the student in the various subject areas, and make new assignments for the next week. High school students may also be assigned required lab classes for math, science, and foreign language. The minimum commitment is to do 30 hours of work per week to maintain the 30 credits per semester needed to graduate.
Vista High is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). All courses required for graduation from the WCCUSD are offered. Students are also able to earn credits for completion of courses offered by concurrent enrollment at Contra Costa College. The curriculum is designed to take advantage of available resources in the home, community, and the school district. The curriculum and instruction are tailored precisely to each student's individual need as identified during in-take evaluation and screening.
